Taliban ‘Inspired’ by ‘Valued Guest’ Bergdahl
Because this is why you go to war, to inspire your enemies rather than to defeat them.
A Time magazine article on the Bowe Bergdahl controversy quotes a Taliban commander as laughing at the question of whether the Taliban would now be inspired to start kidnapping Americans, and then saying “definitely.”
This same Taliban commander also told Time, “You know we are also human beings and have hearts in our bodies…we did whatever we could to make [Bergdahl] happy. We wanted him to return home with good memories.”
This Taliban commander goes on to tell Time they see this as a huge victory for their side.
“We returned our valued guest to his people and in return, they freed our five heroes held in Guantánamo Bay since 2002,” he said. “This is a historic moment for us. Today our enemy for the first time officially recognized our status. Our leader Mullah Mohammad Omar is so happy and is anxiously waiting to see his heroes.”
