The Menacing ‘Gay’ Mafia
The term “gay mafia” officially entered the American lexicon in 2002 when onetime media mogul and talent scout Michael Ovitz blamed a homosexual cabal, organized by the openly “gay,” backstabbing David Geffen, for toppling the dream company, Artist Management Group, that he founded in 1999. In a 2002 interview with Vanity Fair, Ovitz shattered the phony veneer of Tinseltown when he broke with protocol and lambasted the “gay mafia” that destroyed him.
Despite later offering an apology, Ovitz – once dubbed “the most powerful man in Hollywood” – was never able to recover from these provocative comments. He was virtually fitted for a new pair of cement shoes and his career was sunk. Today, the man who formerly ruled Hollywood has all but disappeared.
On April 4th of this year, the “gay mafia” again entered the popular discussion during an online-only Overtime segment of Real Time with Bill Maher. After bringing up the controversy surrounding the forced ouster of Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich for his $1,000 contribution to California’s Prop 8 traditional marriage effort, the HBO host shocked everyone when he declared, “I think there is a ‘gay’ mafia. I think if you cross them, you do get whacked.”
Here’s a portion of the transcript from the Real Time episode:
MAHER: What do you think about the Mozilla CEO having to step down over his donation to a pro-Proposition 8 group.
The Mozilla — which I’m wearing right now, by the way. I didn’t know what Mozilla was. I saw it on my computer, but — it’s Firefox, right? It’s the browser.
So this guy apparently does not want gay people to get married and he had to step down. What do you think of that?
FMR. REP. TOM DAVIS (R-VA): Because he gave $1,000 eight years ago, and it’s come back to haunt him.
CARRIE SHEFFIELD, FORBES: Well, and he gave it when President Obama was still against gay marriage. So, I don’t think it’s very fair.
MAHER: Good point. Also, I think there is a ‘gay’ mafia. I think if you cross them, you do get whacked.
And with that accurate assessment, Maher joined Andrew Sullivan, a high-profile, sodomy-based marriage activist, in castigating the intolerant homofascist thugs that destroyed a good man merely on the basis of his beliefs:
The whole episode disgusts me – as it should disgust anyone interested in a tolerant and diverse society. If this is the gay rights movement today – hounding our opponents with a fanaticism more like the religious right than anyone else – then count me out. If we are about intimidating the free speech of others, we are no better than the anti-gay bullies who came before us.
More recently, atheist comedian Adam Corolla stated that it was impossible to succeed in Hollywood without kowtowing to “gay people” because they basically operate like the mafia.
During a May 19 interview with Salon’s Daniel D’Addario, Corolla affirmed the existence of the “gay” mafia. His comments were in response to a firestorm that he sparked over a 2011 joke about Chaz Bono.
You can’t live in Hollywood and get along in this business and be in theater companies and improv companies and have issues with gay people,” Carolla said. “If you can’t work with gay people, you’re gonna have a difficult time in Hollywood. There’s plenty of gay people and they’re in positions above you. You’re not going to get your movie directed. I don’t have a problem with it — they’ve just turned into a mafia and demanding everyone apologize for every joke and retract every statement.
Moreover, just like any “good” mafia family, the hypersensitive, easily offended, intolerant homosexual powerbrokers in Hollywood also have their own hit list.
Every year Variety or the Hollywood Reporter or one of those magazines comes out with a list of celebrities or notables that hate the gay community,” Carolla said. “I was on that list, because in 2011 I made a joke about Chaz Bono … if you can’t joke about Chaz Bono, then we’re all through! They had Tracy Morgan, several of the people on the list were comedians. And when did this start up? They’re comedians, onstage, making jokes! They may mean it half the time, but they’re still making jokes, why are they held to the same standard as statesmen?
To answer Carolla’s question, the “gay” mafia doesn’t have time for a sense of humor. They’re too busy purging all moral dissent from society, and even the most insignificant homosexual slight will not be tolerated.
When atheists, homosexuals and liberal Hollywood elites can all perceive the growing, menacing threat posed by the “gay mafia,” we know there’s a serious problem.
And for anyone who refuses to willingly comply, Don Vito Gay-leone will “make them an offer they can’t refuse.”
