Obama Judicial Nominee Authorized ‘Summary Execution’ of Americans
By Phillip Jauregui – BarbWire guest contributor
Martin Niemoller, a German pastor who opposed Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime, confessed after the war:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me – and there was no one left to speak for me.
We should learn from Niemoller. We must speak out against injustice at the first instance not the last. To do less is both immoral and un-wise.
Today, we should speak out against President Obama and his judicial nominee, David Barron, who have authorized the summary execution of American citizens without due process in clear violation of the text of the Constitution.
Barron would no doubt caution us that we are only talking here about American citizens who are “alleged terrorists.” But he makes this argument while standing – not on the firm footing of the U.S. Constitution – but on the slippery slope of injustice.
Right now the Senate is considering whether to reject the judicial nomination of David Barron, a man who sought to eliminate one of the most precious rights in our Constitution: the right to life. But there is nothing to debate here. The choice is as clear at the text of the Due Process clause of the Fifth Amendment.
Barron has already sought to eliminate the most fundamental constitutional rights to life, due process, and trial by jury. No one can reasonably believe that he would do any differently if confirmed to the federal bench. Don’t be a fool. Don’t be comforted with the assurance that, “If you like your constitutional rights, you can keep them.”
Barron is disqualified from serving as a federal judge because he has a record of ignoring the most sacred rights in our Constitution. Learn from history and refuse to promote injustice.
Please take action now and call your Senator at 202-224-3121 and demand that they immediately announce their intent to vote against the confirmation of David Barron.
