Holder Lerner

The Bipartisan Votes You Probably Didn’t Hear About

Wednesday, the full House voted to hold the Obama IRS’s former head of tax exempt organizations, Lois Lerner, in contempt of Congress, a historical rarity among government officials. And while six Democrats courageously and patriotically broke ranks, voting with Republicans for Lerner’s contempt charge, there was a different, even more bipartisan vote yesterday on the House floor.

A whopping 26 Democrats joined Republicans in approving a resolution calling on Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a special counsel to investigate the Obama IRS targeting scandal, with the final vote being 250-168 in favor of the resolution.

That vote from yesterday is seen as a major sign of mistrust with Eric Holder, the first sitting attorney general in U.S. history to be held in contempt of Congress (with 17 Democrats voting against Holder while 108 abstained).

Both Obama and Holder, when the unconstitutional targeting of Tea Party groups by the Obama IRS was revealed, promised a full and honest investigation of the scandal. Yet, Holder, in an obvious conflict of interest, made a sham of any real investigation by appointing a major Obama donor to head the “investigation.”

The Holder Justice Department has previously leaked to the media that no one would likely be prosecuted in the case, indicating a complete lack of objectively.

The resolution that passed yesterday, requesting that Holder appoint a special counsel, was offered by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). The resolution said:

[T]he Administration’s efforts to undermine the investigation, and the appointment of a person who has donated almost seven thousand dollars to President Obama and the Democratic National Committee in a lead investigative role, have created a conflict of interest for the Department of Justice that warrants removal of the investigation from the normal processes of the Department of Justice.

The fact that 26 Democrats in this highly charged issue would agree that the Attorney General of the United States is too corrupt to do his job is telling.
