Fourth State in a Row Ignores Junk ‘Science,’ ‘Gay’ Propaganda & Continues to Allow Change Therapy
Here’s some good news: Maryland and Minnesota became the third and fourth states in a row to reject bills aimed at banning Sexual Orientation Change Effort (SOCE) for minors.
As Voice of the Voiceless — an organization devoted to “defending the rights of former homosexuals, individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions, and their families” — reported:
Last Friday, Maryland Delegate Jon Cardin held a joint press conference with Equality Maryland to announce the death of HB 91…While Cardin claimed that the reason the bill was withdrawn was due to the existing regulatory oversight protections that are already in place to protect youth from “harmful conversion therapy,” the real reason was because of the bill’s lack of support within his own party. In reality, the unconstitutional notion of taking away the rights of individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions did not sit well with Maryland legislators, and with Cardin engaged in the race for Attorney General, he was not about to take a chance that this bill would fail. The timing of the press conference was also indicative that Cardin wanted very little attention on the withdraw of this bill.
For the most part, major media outlets have remained uninterested in this important state trend away from banning “gay” conversion or reparative therapy for minors. After California and New Jersey caved to the homosexual activists and their pressure groups, many states are now wisely rejecting the outright lies of the “gay” lobby and breaking the leftist stranglehold on the scientific community. These unconstitutional bans on conversion therapy represent an indefensible attempt by the state to coerce individuals into violating their religious freedoms and denying them the right to self-determination — not to mention the professional and speech rights of their therapists. The Baltimore Sun was the only major news outlet that picked up the story, but even it buried the news on its website Friday evening where it presumably hoped it might go relatively unnoticed.
In his press conference, Cardin pledged to work with Maryland’s licensing boards to ensure that minors who are subjected to “harmful conversion therapy” have every avenue to file a complaint:
Minors or anyone advocating on their behalf can file a complaint with a board, triggering a vigorous investigation . . . if the investigation uncovers proof that a licensed health care professional violated the standard of care, then the board has an array of regulatory tools to keep this from happening again . . . Delegate Cardin and Equality Maryland are confident that the existing regulatory framework provides a precise tool to protect minors from this harmful therapy, and we will work together and with other advocates to ensure that the process for filing complaints against anyone who engages in these practices is transparent and widely disseminated.
In the Minnesota legislature, a similar bill, House File 1906/Senate File 1727, failed even to receive a committee hearing. According to an anonymous source, the Democrat leadership was unwilling to support this bill without strong bipartisan support. According to Voice of the Voiceless, “After a heavy education campaign from ex-gays in Minnesota, this bill is DEAD ON ARRIVAL.” That now makes four similar, successive bills that have been defeated in Virginia, Washington, Maryland and Minnesota.
Next up, the Illinois House has a Human Services Committee hearing scheduled for Monday, March 24 on their proposed bill (HB 5569) to ban SOCE therapy for minors. If you live in that state, make sure to contact your legislators and let them know that you do not support the passage of this unconstitutional measure.
Sure, it’s not hard to find people who are willing to line up and claim that they have experienced personal harm as a direct result of SOCE therapy. Legitimate accounts of unethical counselors are bound to surface, but many of these examples are actually grossly exaggerated, fabricated stories. Moreover, rare instances of negative anecdotal evidence should never be used to dismiss all such counseling efforts. There are many excellent and extremely professional therapists out there who are truly helping numerous individuals overcome unwanted same-sex attractions.
Several studies have strongly demonstrated that sexual orientation is not set in stone. Rather, sexual “orientation”/preferences display great fluidity during a person’s life. Homosexuality is not genetically hard-wired into a person’s identity. Referring to the identical twin studies, Dr. Neil Whitehead stated, “Neutral academic surveys show there is substantial change. About half of the homosexual/bisexual population (in a non-therapeutic environment) moves towards heterosexuality over a lifetime. About 3% of the present heterosexual population once firmly believed themselves to be homosexual or bisexual.”
What’s even more noteworthy is the fact that most of these changes occurred without any counseling or therapy. “These changes are not therapeutically induced, but happen ‘naturally’ in life, some very quickly,” Dr. Whitehead observes. “Most changes in sexual orientation are towards exclusive heterosexuality.”
Bearman and Brueckner’s twin study also demonstrated that almost all 16-17 year old adolescents, who described having a romantic attraction to the same sex, had switched just one year later.
Amazingly, the statistics now indicate that ex-“gays” now outnumber actual “gays.” This fact alone represents a great risk to the “born that way” homosexual dogma, upon which the entire “gay rights/equality” effort has been built. As this false foundation is demolished, the homofascists also realize that their agenda is being neutered right before their eyes. And that’s exactly why they so ardently fight to impose state bans on SOCE therapy for minors.
As loving Christian supporters of those who are sincerely struggling to overcome unwanted same-sex attractions, we should be celebrating the recent defeat of these freedom-killing, perversity-perpetuating measures.
