Court-Martialed for Bible Verses?

avatar

In a little over two hours after filing his complaint, rabid church-state separationist Mikey Weinstein succeeded in getting the Air Force Academy to order the removal of a Bible verse posted on a cadet’s whiteboard outside his dormitory door. Weinstein, the director of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), claims that 29 cadets and four faculty members had contacted him to complain about the biblical citation.

One thing is for sure, Weinstein has been granted unusual influence with the Obama-led Pentagon. He makes one call, and the military brass almost immediately cave to his every demand.

The verse posted outside the cadet’s room read, “I have been crucified with Christ therefore I no longer live, but Christ lives in me” (Gal. 2:20).

Weinstein ironically claims that the verse created a hostile environment at the academy by “elevat[ing] one religious faith over all others.” Actually, it’s the MRFF that’s fomenting anti-religious hostilities at the Air Force Academy. Like many virulent anti-God types, Weinstein makes a habit of trampling on the “free exercise clause” of the First Amendment.

While these cadets prepare to fight for our liberty all around the world, they apparently loose their freedoms right here at home.

Since this original violation of an unnamed cadet’s religious freedom, several cadets are fighting mad, and they’re fighting back. They have staged a “revolt” of sorts by posting their own verses from the Bible and the Koran on their whiteboards as a bold demonstration of unity.

The Family Research Council’s Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin (USA-Ret.) stated, “Once the academy allowed cadets to use these whiteboards for their personal use, censorship of religious commentary is unacceptable. Either the Air Force is very confused about the Constitution of the United States or they don’t really believe in the liberties that are provided by that document.”

Mikey Weinstein is threatening to file suit if the Air Force Academy fails to punish the cadets for what he calls a “blatant and egregious violation of Air Force regulation 1-1 and the United States Constitution.” Weinstein is demanding that everyone who posted verses be punished, and that even includes possibly issuing military court-martials. It looks like things are really starting to heat up at the Air Force Academy.

Michael Berry, an attorney with Liberty Institute, has pledge his organization’s efforts and resources to defend any cadet whose religious rights have been violated.
